The heartache of a relapse (tapping and visualisation can help)

Baby 30th June 2014

Baby’s update.

I got a sinking feeling at the start of last week, when after making a fantastic recovery, Baby (the kitten that arrived on the doorstep at the beginning of June with cat flu)  started showing signs of runny eyes again. My mind couldn’t help detour for a moment to wondering if she had underlying problems (e.g feline aids,  feline herpes or similar). I remembered reading how cats can have ongoing respiratory issues and weak immune systems from early problems.

After seeing her make such brilliant progress – from having gunked up eyes and nose and being listless to turning into a happy, lively kitten, chasing toys and bounding about like a truly healthy kitten with big clear eyes that are turning a lovely shade of green – it was hard to see her looking worse. It may not be too serious, she’s still bounding around and eating well, but it was still distressing.

How to stay mentally and emotionally strong.

When we see our pet’s condition deteriorate or relapse, whether mildly or strongly, it can bring up strong emotions. It’s hard to have nursed them to better health and then to worry that all that good work could be ‘undone’. There can also be fear when strategies don’t work or stop working. Our heartstrings are pulled and aching … it can feel tough.

I’ve seen people suffer a lot in this situation and I don’t want that for us, because we’re the ones doing all the good work, giving them so much love and care and we deserve to keep our strength and piece of mind. The good news is that there is a LOT we can do – for ourselves and for our furred friends. Here’s what to do when those fearful thoughts arise.

1. Tune into the emotions that you feel.

I noticed the fear that started gripping  at my heart and that ‘sinking feeling’ of sadness descending as I saw her runny eyes.

Why tune in?

It’s important to name your emotions in order to clear out those that weaken you.

2. Write down the crazy worries and thoughts that are in your mind.

I followed the crazy path of my thoughts – fear that she might get worse, thoughts of feline herpes, wondering about socialising her and being sad she’ll maybe be longer in quarantine.

3. Use EFT tapping to clear them systematically.

Thank goodness for EFT. It really saved me. I started tapping firstly on my ‘in the moment’ feelings, as I sat near her and looked at her runny eyes. I let myself feel that fear and worry and I tapped on it and let it release. Then later, I tapped through some of those crazy thoughts I’d been having.

Practical considerations.

1. Keep in touch with your vet and pet health team.

Don’t ‘go it alone’ at this time, stay in touch with you vet or other qualified professionals who assist with your pet’s health care and ask them for advice. By going to the vet I discovered that eye conditions can be common in kittens who have had cat flu and can re-occur if they are stressed. I also got some very useful eye drops to soothe her eyes and we checked for eye ulcers. Best of all, once the vet assured me that Baby wasn’t infectious anymore, I knew I could let her out of quarentine – yay.

2. Look at nutritional support.

It’s good to give your pets the best possible nutritional support when their health is compromised. Do some research and see what options for healthy nutrition are appopriate and available for your pet. After doing some research I am currently supplementing Baby’s diet with L-lyseine which will help if her condition is related to feline herpes.

3. Use your presence and skills to help your pet to better health.

Simple things like sitting with you pet and being a loving presence for them aren’t to be underestimated in their value to your furry friend’s recovery. You can also send healing energy to them through your intention, or maybe you know reiki or a touch modality that could help them.

For me, EFT tapping is one of the simplest and most tangible ways for people to help their pets.  If you don’t know how to do it yet, fear not, as I show you how to tap for your pets in this free video series. It’s really simple to do, even if you just have 5 minutes to spare and it will be of practical help. You can even combine it with visualisation – see below.

This weeks tapping video – combining EFT with visualisation.

In this weeks video I combine the EFT tapping with a little bit of visualisation, because our pets pick up on our energy and so, if we imagine them as strong and healthy, they pick up on that and respond well to it.

So, in the first tapping round we clear out any concerns we have and then in the second round we can focus on our desired outcome – seeing / imagining our pet full of vibrant health and well-being. When we tune into and affirm what we desire for our pet in this way, we create more possibility for it to become reality.

Did it work for you?

I’m all ears to hear how you got on if you tried the tapping and visualisation exercise, so either leave me a message in the comments or email me at ferris@ferrisjay.com to share your experience with me.

My intention is to share my knowledge of these techniques with those who are in need, so please share this blog and video with your pet loving friends. It could come in useful for them one day.
