When you just can’t leave it alone (and have to scratch that itch!)

Have you got an itch to scratch?Last week I was tending to some lovely big red bites on my legs, courtesy of my garden insect population.
All I wanted to do was scratch them – even though it just made them worse. I KNEW I shouldn’t, I KNEW they’d get inflamed and itchier the more I scratched, but could I help it? Not easily.
I looked around at my cat Elvie, who was wearing an e-collar to stop him chewing at his stitches (post op), and I wondered why we both seemed so programmed to meddle with our wounds.

That got me thinking of how it isn’t just physical ‘itches’ that we find it hard to leave alone. No, we can be pretty good at itching and poking around parts of our lives that are causing us to feel uncomfortable – and how if something bad happens we can rush in and make things much worse in the process. You know what I mean, that argument you couldn’t walk away from or bear to lose; that point you wouldn’t back down from even when things had gone too far; that situation that upsets you.
Maybe it’s a natural reaction – but I reckon that we can learn to do something more productive than reacting rashly.

If we take time to think, (maybe count to 10 before saying the next word in that heated exchange of words or switch subjects rather than dwelling on that lost job or situation that went pear shaped), we often open up to much better ways to proceed.

As I pondered this, I remembered that there were other things I could do (I’d already used aloe vera and lavender to try to soothe the bites). I tapped* on the issue, then spotted a handy plantain plant (the grass like plantain plant) outside the door, which I used as a poultice. 10 minutes later it the itching subsided and a couple of days later the bites had gone.

Think about your own life now. Where in your life can you stop inflaming situations and start to soothe and heal them? EFT tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is the perfect balm for this.

Come and tap along with me now in this weeks video start that process, whether your ‘itch’ (that you just CAN’T leave alone) is physical or metaphorical. To watch the video click here or on the picture below.
