Andie’s story, how EFT tapping helped her cope with the decline and loss of her poodle Billy.

Andie and Billy

Meet Andie and Billy.

Andie is the lady in the photo and Billy is the poodle. Today I want to share Andie’s story about how she has used EFT tapping when Billy’s life was ending and afterwards.

I first met Andie (online, we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting in person yet) last summer when she got in touch because she was concerned about the health of her sweet 16 year old poodle, Billy. She was an adoring pet parent. Billy was at the centre of her and her husband’s life, he used to go to work with her (she worked at a dance school and the pupils loved Billy) and out to social events, in fact he rarely left her side, as she didn’t like to leave him alone in the house.
Here’s Billy, her angel.

By the time she got in touch with me, he was becoming blind, deaf and weak. He also wasn’t sleeping well, which meant that she wasn’t sleeping well either. Andie joined my Golden Oldie Pet Love Challenge in October last year to learn how to best help Billy and how to cope with his health decline. Andie already did know how to use EFT tapping and so she really ‘hit the ground running’ so to speak with using the tapping and other tools during the Challenge (and she shares a lovely story about that in this week’s video). I know that her enthusiasm and consistency was going to yield her great results and I was right. Here’s what she found after doing the EFT exercises.

Later the same day she also noted

“I would just like to add that I needed him to settle now as am due for therapy so need to relax so I just did several rounds of tapping and he is snoring now. I have always known he picks up my anxieties but this really proves it can be managed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart x x x x x”

I’ve always known how effective EFT can be for calming our pets and for helping us stay calm in the face of their difficult circumstances and I wanted to share Andie’s experiences, as they show how easy it is for everyone to see results with EFT.

The beginning of the end.

On Friday 6th November it was Billy’s 17th birthday and I had a session with Andie to help her deal with some anxiety about Billy’s condition, especially for those times when he was unsettled or seemed uncomfortable at night. I showed her some tips for tapping whilst in bed so as not to disturb other people.
The tapping did help to keep him more comfortable, but inevitably his health did continue to decline as December began. As all pet parents do, she began to worry about how long she had left with Billy and had a feeling that there wasn’t much time left for him. Yet, rather than being at the mercy of the worry, she did use the tapping to help her through.

On the 7th of December Billy had a stroke and, as Andie said, the light had gone out of his eyes. She knew it was ‘time’ and after spending one last night cuddling him she had her vet, who had known Billy since he was an egg in his mother’s tummy, come to help him ‘cross over to rainbow bridge’.
It can be hard to describe the heartbreak that a pet parent feels when they lose their fur baby, and I won’t attempt to either imagine or describe how Andie felt that day, or during the days afterwards.

Gone but never forgotten.

Yet, even in her time of grief, Andie remembered to use the tapping. I showed her how to use EFT to move gently through the waves of grief, so she didn’t get stuck or lost in them. I reminded her that she had done her best for Billy and I encouraged her to take extra good care of herself in the weeks after Billy died.
Andie made sure to surround herself with good supportive friends, which is what I recommend to anyone going through the pain of pet loss.

A month later and waves of grief still come. She knows how to navigate them now and when they are intense, she taps and also reaches out for help and pleasant distractions. It was hard going back to dance school and some tears were shed by her and her pupils, Billy was such a presence there.
The love Andie has for Billy and those happy memories of him will never fade, even though he is no longer in his physical body. He’s still present in her life.
As a way of remembering him, Andie had Billy’s ashes placed in a beautiful pewter heart, seen below.

This week’s video.

In this week’s video I spoke with Andie, so she could tell you in her own words about her experience of using the tapping for herself and Billy.
Thank you Andie.

  1. What a beautiful and interesting story, Ferris! I’m familiar with tapping, but hadn’t considered its benefits in calming our fur family members. What an inspiring example of the benefits others can reap. Thank you for sharing such a heart-tugging story about Andie & Billy! <3

    • Thanks April,I’m glad you liked Billy and Andie’s story and found it inspiring like I did.

  2. nice to hear that your loving support and the tapping combined to ease andie through her grief. witnessing the decline of a beloved pet and saying that final goodbye are so difficult.

    • It is hard to see our pets decline and to have to say that final goodbye, April, that’s why I do the work I do, to make that time a little gentler for everyone.

  3. This is such a moving post, and so wonderful to learn how EFT tapping can be used for pets and the transition of a pet. How wonderful you were able to help Andie and Billy and all those now able to discover how you can help with such a difficult time.
